About Gate.io

Gate.io, founded in 2013, is a veteran crypto exchange that offers the widest selection of cryptocurrencies among the top exchanges. The platform was ranked by Forbes Advisor as the best crypto exchange of 2021 and continues to maintain high rankings on CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap, based on metrics such as volume, transparency, and security.

In previous years, Gate.io mainly focused on the Asian market, where it has built a great reputation with users. However, as the platform expanded, it became a global cryptocurrency platform, providing services to millions of trusted users worldwide.

As a result, during the peak of the crypto market, Gate.io’s daily volume exceeded $10 billion, making it the second-largest exchange by daily trading volume.

Many users are already attached to the platform due to the accessibility of new and promising crypto projects as well as its long record of reliable service.

Furthermore, Gate.io offers a wide selection of assets, a wide range of advanced trading tools, and support for Web3 technologies such as DeFi, NFTs, GameFi, and more.

Is Gate.io safe?

Before placing your trust in a platform like Gate.io, you should understand all the steps the platform will take to ensure you are protected from attacks and security breaches. Understanding the security of the platform is especially important for new traders who are new to cryptocurrencies.

There are a lot of malicious and untrustworthy actors floating around, and interacting with a fake platform can put you at risk. So let’s explore the amount of time that the platform will use to secure user funds.

How Gate.io Protects User Money

Gate.io has implemented a comprehensive multi-layered security infrastructure to protect its users. This includes active and passive security features for login and authentication, user asset management, platform security, corporate operations, software development, and enterprise asset storage.

Protect accounts and assets

One of the first layers of user protection is account security. Every user account on Gate.io is protected with multi-factor authentication available via SMS, Google OTP, Email, and optional hardware authentication via Ukey/YubiKey support. Users can utilize all these options to maximize the safety of their accounts. Furthermore, security logs and suspicious activity monitoring add extra security behind the scenes.

In terms of user transactions and account security, users are protected by features such as withdrawal lists and asset passwords. In addition, to prevent malicious phishing emails, phishing codes are used for users to distinguish between fake and genuine emails.

Asset storage platform & security

Security of the platform and storage of user assets is complicated for good reasons. First, all of Gate.io’s online services run on secure infrastructure specifically designed to prevent exploitation from all angles.

This infrastructure includes cloud security protection against malicious traffic, attacks, and malware; encrypted data transmitted through the Transport Security Layer; anti-DDoS measures; flexible DNS security; and firewalls to protect against intrusions, and data tampering, and security vulnerabilities.

Discovering the security of asset storage, Gate.io uses both online and offline storage and security methods to ensure users’ assets are safe.

These methods include cold wallets and hot wallets protected with various cryptographic and physical security measures backed by emergency response plans. As a result, Gate.io’s asset repository has never been compromised since June 2022.

What is Gate.io compliance and regulation?

To comply with regulatory requirements, Gate.io actively works with its global compliance teams and advisors to ensure the exchange meets all regulatory requirements in the supported regions.

In addition, Gate.io was one of the first exchanges to offer users verification that they hold 100% of user funds, receiving third-party audits from Armanino LLP. This is important when defaults and collapses are happening with large entities like Terra and Celsius.

Has Gate.io ever been hacked?

With nine years of life, you might think Gate.io would have had at least one incident of user funds being compromised. However, unlike many other exchanges, the exchange has never had a significant hack.

While there was an incident in 2018 where a third-party service on the platform was exploited, this did not result in a major loss of user funds. The exchange claims that users’ assets on the platform were not lost and that its technical team acted quickly as soon as the risk was detected, isolating and removing third-party services from the platform.

Take responsibility for users

Gate.io has taken a proactive approach to assist users affected by cryptocurrency hacks outside of their platform.

For example, in April 2021, the exchange reimbursed more than $2 million to victims of an attack on the PAID Network. This hack happened on the PAID Network after the developer’s private key was compromised, allowing the hacker to modify the smart contract. This hack is not affiliated with the Gate.io platform. However, the company still responded to the incident and refunded the victims on the platform.

Conclusion

Gate.io has proven nine years of safe service to its users, backed by comprehensive security measures. It’s easy to see why Gate.io is one of the top crypto exchanges trusted by millions.

The platform has proven that it takes security very seriously and is ready to assist its users in any way possible to give them peace of mind in their crypto efforts.
