In order to offer innovative avatar fashion looks on Meta’s Avatar Store, Meta has partnered with digital fashion company DressX.
Starting on July 19, users may purchase DressX clothes and put them on their avatars on Meta platforms including Messenger, Facebook, Instagram, and VR headset Quest.
The Los Angeles-based firm was founded in 2020 with the goal of providing companies and 3D designers with digital-only collections. The company, which launched its collection on Roblox first, has garnered $3.3 million in investment, according to its Crunchbase profile. In the past, it collaborated with H&M to introduce virtual fashion for the company, and it was a nominee for the LVMH Innovation Award for 2022.
A digital copy of Michelle Obama’s 2009 Inaugural Ball gown was recently created and auctioned off by the company in collaboration with Jason Wu.
Fashion and luxury firms are experimenting with ways to boost their presence in virtual worlds in order to capture a piece of the market for luxury goods, which Morgan Stanley analysts estimate will be worth $50 billion. Digital fashion fans and designers claim that it offers a type of originality and self-expression that is usually lost in online communication.
DressX joins a group of other renowned companies including Balenciaga, Prada, and Thom Browne who have introduced virtual clothing to Meta’s marketplace.
The price of an outfit can range from $2.99 to $8.99. The marketplace, which debuted in a few nations like Canada, the US, Mexico, and Thailand, will be made available in other countries.
