Scam Alert

Tune Talk Software Hacked, Customers Get Alerts About “Bitcoin Investment”

Tune Talk – As the bitcoin business develops, fraudsters’ interest in cryptocurrency users intensifies. Now, it appears that hackers are attempting to defraud individuals of their Bitcoin by using Tune Talk, Malaysia’s largest mobile network operator.

Tune Talk Software Hacked, Customers Get Alerts About “Bitcoin Investment”

Customers of Tune Talk, the top mobile prepaid mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) in Malaysia, have been receiving push notifications urging them to double their Bitcoin contributions, as several users noted on August 19. The official app may have been compromised, and users are warning one another not to pay attention to the message unless they want to go bankrupt. On Twitter, this scam is also gaining popularity.

The harmed users have uploaded images of the false notices that appeared on both networks. The emails make the claim that the receivers have won a “competition” and as a result, they are entitled to a reward of twice as much Bitcoin if they click the notice and send it to an e-wallet.

Reactions to the Tune Talk data breach

Nantha Arumugam, chief operating officer of Tune Talk, stated in an interview:

“We are aware that the latest app notification may have been compromised. Our team is currently investigating the root cause, and we will update our subscribers as soon as possible.”

Additionally, the app developers responded almost immediately after recognizing the problem on their website. They told customers that just the push app notification system was at risk and assured them they were taking steps to safeguard it. The website states:

“If you have received a Bitcoin message from us, do not panic and kindly ignore it. Only our push app notification was compromised, and our team is investigating the issue. Rest assured, your personal details are safe with us.”

The app’s Twitter feed also posted the same message.

However, cryptocurrency-related cybersecurity incidents are nothing new for the industry. A Finbold research from the beginning of July found that in the first half of 2022, hackers broke into 175 cryptocurrency projects and successfully stole $2 billion.
