Cryptocurrency scams are constantly in the market, with bad actors attempting to provide something too good to be true. The most recent example occurred just hours ago when Apple held a live event to unveil new iPhones and other products.
According to the Verge, the video featured numerous red flags, including an odd title – Apple Event Live. Apple CEO Tim Cook: Apple & Metaverse in 2022 drew tens of thousands of viewers at one point.
On the other hand, the unscrupulous actors had added the BTC and ETH logos to the feed and pointed viewers to a suspicious URL that had nothing to do with Apple. According to The Verge, YouTube did remove the video after a while.
The Verge also discovered a live stream on a separate channel that claimed to be from Apple Inc. The stream pretended to be an event with Cook and Tesla CEO Elon Musk about Apple and the metaverse, but it was actually a repurposed interview with Musk and Block head Jack Dorsey about Bitcoin. It had over 10,000 viewers and also connected to a suspicious-looking crypto site in the conversation. It has been removed as well.
These types of cryptocurrency frauds have been around for a long time. The attackers frequently utilize a well-known business or individual to trick victims into sending their cryptocurrency to their wallets while promising to double it in return. While this may sound like a blatant scam, it has also fooled some people.
