Yuga Labs Hires First Chief Gaming Officer To Promote The Otherside Project

Yuga Labs, the firm behind the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT series, announced the appointment of Spencer Tucker as its first Chief Gaming Officer on Friday.

Tucker, who was previously president of games at Scopely, will lead Yuga’s gaming initiatives, including its Otherside metaverse project, according to a press release.

Otherside made news on Ethereum earlier this year when it experienced a significant rush of transactions and $561 million in NFT land sales within 24 hours.

Tucker formerly held positions as President of Games and Senior Vice President of Product at Scopely and GREE, respectively. He said in the Friday announcement:

“Web3 is revolutionizing gaming, entertainment, and community in much the same way the shift to mobile revolutionized communication. I am beyond excited to join the Yuga Labs team and to continue building toward the new era of interoperability and community-empowered growth in the Otherside metaverse.”

Yuga CEO Nicole Muniz stated in a statement that gaming is one of the company’s top goals, calling it a major priority moving forward:

“Yuga today is known most prominently for being the home of Bored Ape Yacht Club, CryptoPunks, and Meebits, but Yuga is more than that. Gaming is one of our main focus areas. We are uniquely situated to revolutionize the way we all think about web3 gaming through core principles such as ownership, utility, community, and storytelling.”

Yuga Labs still has a tiny crew despite its $450 million seed round, which has resulted in a startling $4 billion value. The company plans to grow to 100 employees by the end of 2022.
