The collaboration, which also includes the Bolnisi Winemakers Association and Scantrust, plans to leverage the Cardano (ADA) blockchain to improve Georgia’s worldwide wine production reputation.

A trial initiative aimed at both export and local markets will be launched in Georgia’s Bolnisi area, according to the Cardano Foundation.

The experiment will feature up to 100,000 bottles of wine with a special label containing a QR code that buyers may scan to verify the product’s legitimacy.

Cardano Foundation’s vice president of engineering, Mel McCann said:

“This collaboration will develop a creative, cost-effective, and flexible certification and traceability system, which will provide transparency and authenticity for wineries and customers from point of harvest to point of consumption.”

The Cardano Foundation is a non-profit organization established in Switzerland that oversees the development of the Cardano blockchain.

The Cardano blockchain will also be used by Georgia’s National Wine Agency to produce public records using existing certification data on wine destined for export.
