In the latest discovery by crypto-security firm PeckShieldAlert, they discovered that $950.000 was stolen from a virtual address by address 0x9731F. The hacker has now transferred $732 ETH to the Tornado Cash mixer.
As was updated in an earlier Coincu News article, Evgeny Gaevoy, the founder and CEO of Wintermute, has stated that the company was compromised for $160 million on September 20.
Profanity, an open source tool to generate multiple addresses, and an internal tool to generate an address with multiple leading 0. The reason for that is because they want to optimize gas. As reported by Halborn, tttackers took advantage of a weakness in the wallet’s key generation process to access and drain $3.3 million in tokens from users’ wallets.
As was updated in an earlier Coincu News article, mining virtual addresses through the profanity tool was one of the causes of the hack.
No CeFi or OTC wallets nor any of Wintermute’s internal or partner data have been affected. Wintermute also offered a bounty of 16 million USDC to return all stolen assets but has not yet taken effect.
