In particular, the hackers have been tempting macOS users with alluring employment offers at crypto exchange Crypto.com in the latest variation of a hacking campaign named ‘Operation In(ter)ception,’ according to the cybersecurity firm SentinelOne on September 26.
The hackers used well-designed and legitimate-looking decoy PDF documents advertising openings for positions such as Art Director – Concept Art (NFT) in Singapore to disguise malware as job posts from renowned crypto exchanges.
Although it is not clear at this stage how the malware is being distributed, earlier reports suggested that threat actors were attracting victims via targeted messaging on LinkedIn, according to SentinelOne.
The organization did the same trick in August 2022, but this time they used bogus job advertising at the Coinbase cryptocurrency exchange, as discovered by experts from another cybersecurity firm, ESET.
Since 2020, the Lazarus Group has been linked to a variety of appealing employment offers intended to draw in its victims, particularly in the aerospace and military industries, in a campaign known as ‘Operation Dream Job,’ with Windows users as the major targets.
The group has also been implicated in a number of robberies in the cryptocurrency business, including the June attack on Harmony Network’s Horizon bridge.
