Tornado Cash Developer In Jail After Appeal Denied: The Block

The appeal of arrested Tornado Cash developer Alexey Pertsev has been dismissed and he will be in prison until at least the end of November. All of Pertsev’s assets may also be seized and auctioned.

According to The Block, Tornado Cash developer wife Alexey Pertsev shared his appeal was dismissed by a judge in the Netherlands on September 29.

Thursday’s ruling means that Pertsev, will be detained until at least November 22.

As was updated in an earlier Coincu News article, Tornado Cash developer Alexey Pertsev was arrested in August by Dutch authorities for allegedly facilitating money laundering.

Pertsev was detained for more than seven weeks. His arrest comes two days after the US government added Tornado Cash and 44 related Ethereum and USDC wallets. List of specially designated countries. The US Treasury Department said the cryptocurrency mixing service, which allows users to conceal transactions, has allowed money laundering to take place easily, all traces will be erased.

Malik said the rejection is “absolutely not fair” and that no argument from Pertsev’s side was taken into consideration. “There is absolute lawlessness going on here,” she said.

She went on to say that Dutch authorities are “afraid that Alex will return to Russia, although if he returns there, he will be sent to war.” Russia invaded Ukraine in February.

According to Malik, Dutch authorities intend to seize and auction off Pertsev’s property. She said that his car was seized the day he was arrested and that Pertsev’s lawyer informed her that the prosecution would sell the vehicle.

Malik responded, “As we see,” when asked if Dutch prosecutors could confiscate an accused person’s assets without filing a formal charge.

“At the moment, only a car, but I think they can come and take something else at any moment. I don’t feel safe,”

She said

Prosecutors will sell “all of our legal property at auction, leaving me with nothing.”

The arrest of Pertsev has drawn criticism from many in the crypto community. About 50 supporters of privacy and cryptocurrencies demonstrated in Amsterdam last month. Malik participated in the demonstration and assisted in its planning. Pertsev should not be held accountable for creating open-source code, according to protesters, regardless of how it is exploited by criminals.
