On October 18, BitKeep Swap announced that their official wallet had been hacked. Their development team urgently investigated and fixed the problem.
The hack is now blocked. The attack focused on the BNB Chain, causing about $1 million in damage. BitKeep says wallet users’ assets are now safe and advises users to perform Revoke operations.
BitKeep Swap services are also suspended to ensure that there are no other asset security issues. The team also communicates and cooperates with major security agencies to track down hackers and do their best to recover stolen assets.
According to data monitoring by crypto security firms, Bitkeep Swap attackers transferred 4,300 BNB (approximately $1.18 million) of stolen funds to Tornado Cash in the form of 100 BNB each.
BitKeep will refund the full amount to all affected users. However, the specific refund plan will be announced later.
October hacks and mining peaks in 2022. As Chainalysis reports: “October is now the biggest month of the year ever in terms of hacking activity. As of now this month, $718 million has been stolen from DeFi protocols through 11 different hacks.”
