Compass Mining Hands Up With Aspen Creek To Place 27MW Worth Of Bitcoin Miners In Texas

Compass Mining has struck a hosting agreement with data center developer Aspen Creek Digital Corporation to store around 9,000 of its bitcoin mining rigs.

The corporation will receive 27 megawatts of electrical capacity from Aspen Creek’s 30-megawatt facility behind the meter, which will draw power from a solar farm in Texas.

Individual clients’ equipment is hosted by Compass Mining at sites around the United States and Canada. The business will begin delivering machines to this facility, including S19 XPs and S19j Pros, in the fourth quarter of 2022.

Co-founder and co-CEO Thomas Heller stated:

“Compass Mining continues to seek out high quality hosting providers such as ACDC that benefit our mining clients uptime and reliability. ACDC’s pairing of cost effective, renewable energy with mining operational excellence is difficult to find in today’s current market.”

Compass announced the closure of two Georgia sites last month, citing increasing prices. The Georgia complex housed over 5,000 machines, or approximately 15 megawatts (MW), for Compass clients.

The company has had outages, deployment delays, and mining rigs delayed in Russia, prompting CEO Whit Gibbs to resign in June and the new management to lay off 15% of the workforce.

The initial location for Aspen Creek Digital Corporation was a 6-megawatt high-performance computing cluster (HPCC) in Colorado. It intends to develop a third 150-megawatt facility in mid-2024.
