Japanese mobile network operator NTT Docomo will invest $4.1 billion in Web3, according to the company’s Q2 financial statements.

The mobile operator expects to invest 500-600 billion yen in Web3 over the next five to six years, the company presented the plan in its Q2/2022 earnings report.

The mobile service provider intends to establish a Web3 business by 2023, with four main functions: blockchain wallet, cryptocurrency exchange, token issuance, and securities.

Motoyuki Ii, president & CEO of NTT Docomo, said:

“Web3 is the most impactful technological development since the Internet. Docomo, in collaboration with Accenture, will revolutionize social infrastructure by utilizing blockchain and building a safe and secure Web3 environment.

We will build an environment where the power of creators and developers can come together. We are glad to be promoting the Japan-developed Web3, and we welcome individuals and companies to join us in the global development of Web3 services.”

NTT Docomo also cherishes a partnership with service giant Accenture and multi-chain smart contract platform Astar to attract participation and cooperation from industries and businesses through a DAO approach.
