An advertising campaign for an account that advertised a website selling domain names from Aptos Domain Name Service was started on Twitter today, Nov. 21, 2022. It states that the recently launched Aptos DNS is offering its customers the domain name “.apt” for only 2 APT.
Scammers are operating a website that closely resembles the Aptos DNS home page. However, it runs with a different name and has a slightly different interface’s font. Even the demo code on the fictitious website’s documentation page is lifted verbatim from the real one because the con artists overlooked the URL details and instead directed users’ API requests to a different domain in their documentation.
This ad campaign got beyond Twitter’s premoderation system on Monday, and it is now being seen to platform users who are curious about blockchain and cryptocurrency. Midway through October, the actual Aptos DNS debuted alongside the Aptos network.
Additionally, the original Aptos Labs’ DNS service doesn’t have a distinct Twitter account; instead, its updates are broadcast via the primary account for the Aptos ecosystem. Of course, the original Aptos DNS website doesn’t provide promotional deals with “limited discounts” and special rates for “three accounts only.”
This is not the first time that supporters of Aptos (APT) have been the target of dishonest promotional activities. Scammers are disseminating information regarding the claimed hacking of the Aptos (APT) blockchain in addition to crude “airdrops.”
