Bytedance, the company behind the well-known social networking site Tiktok, has revealed that it would enable users of its VR goggles to watch soccer matches in virtual environments and invite friends for a group metaverse viewing experience.
Local analysts claim that businesses in the industry may utilize the World Cup to assess the caliber of the experiences they can now provide to their consumers. An industry observer named Chen Jia told Global Times in an interview:
“Through the application of various scenarios in the metaverse of this World Cup, China can also test the overall quality of the industry chain in the field of virtual reality technology, and thus gain an early foothold in the sector.”
The state-owned carrier China Mobile’s subsidiary Migu also said it would create a world-first virtual environment so its subscribers could watch the cup matches in an immersive and surreal atmosphere.
The CCO of Migu, Gan Yuqing, made this announcement in addition to planning a World Cup Music Festival that was promoted to be hosted in the metaverse and feature a special guest from 2070.
