An announcement from the Fiscal Information and Investigation Service (FIOD) stated that the 42-year-old male, who is from the Midden-Groningen municipality, was detained on November 16. After a search of the man’s Veendam home, cash and computer equipment were taken.
The office of the Dutch Public Prosecutor was in charge of the investigation. According to the prosecution, there were connections to dark web trading.
After the individual made a few trips to Bitcoin ATMs, the investigation was launched. The man had been trading large amounts of Bitcoin through exchanges for a while, and he also possessed a lot more of the cryptocurrency than he could have with his current income.
