According to Lookonchain, Ankr Reward Bearing Staked BNB (aBNBc) was allegedly minted by the attacker in the amount of 20 trillion. Since then, the exploiter has successfully obtained about 5 million USDC by using services like Uniswap, Tornado Cash, and different bridges to swap and disguise the cash.
Ankr quickly announced on Twitter that their “aBNB token has been exploited” and that it is actively coordinating with exchanges to promptly suspend trade of the compromised token.
Lookonchain then revealed what the hacker did after an hour. In particular, the exploiter stole the key of Ankr Deployer and minted 10 trillion aBNBc to send to himself, after which he transferred 1.125 BNB to his address as a gas fee and began to dump aBNBc.
Before the exploiter swapped 4,500 BNB for 1,293,087 USDC and deposited 900 BNB into Tornado Cash, he had exchanged 4 Million USDC and 5,000 BND which is worth $1.5 Million.
Finally, the exploiter cross-chained all USDC to the Ethereum network via CelerNetwork and MultichainOrg and swapped all 4,684,156 USDC for 3,446 ETH.
