Today, in the latest press release by CoinDesk, a DCG media outlet, has released an update on the DESK community token, integrating the DESK token into the broader reader experience.
Readers have the opportunity to read articles, watch videos, and interact with CoinDesk. To earn DESK tokens, the DESK rewards received will be accumulated in each reader’s CoinDesk balance and future readers can transfer them.
Additionally, starting today, readers can exchange DESK tokens for various NFT works from featured artists, community PFPs, and more, and can also use DESK to access token threshold channels and Web3 functionality in the Discord community.
DESK tokens can also be used to participate in tokenized polls and community recommendations in the SnapShot space, and CoinDesk is also developing more DESK redemption opportunities, including an item store where readers can redeem selected physical items, as well as enhance their Way of Participation to experience Consensus 2023 in April 2023.
Prior to that, last August, Coindesk launched the Arc XP digital experience platform and introduced the DESK digital token.
As was updated in an earlier Coincu News article, the parent company of this media is in trouble due to the great impact from the collapse of FTX put one of its Genesis subsidiaries in jeopardy of bankruptcy. Therefore, there have been many offers to buy back this media. One of the suggested acquisition prices is $300 million, but this is considered too low.
The comments state that the news site does not need to be sold for any reason related to its business. Genesis’ troubles could force DCG to choose between its subsidiaries, should DCG decide to discontinue the Genesis business so CoinDesk and Grayscale can continue to grow.
