Carmack informed the corporation of his internal post via his Facebook account:
“It has been a struggle for me. I have a voice at the highest levels here, so it feels like I should be able to move things, but I’m evidently not persuasive enough. A good fraction of the things I complain about eventually turn my way after a year or two passes and evidence piles up, but I have never been able to kill stupid things before they cause damage, or set a direction and have a team actually stick to it. I think my influence at the margins has been positive, but it has never been a prime mover.”
Additionally, he also tweeted that he has long been dissatisfied with the way business is conducted at Meta. On strategic matters, he claimed, he and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg differ noticeably.
He told his fans that he is now fully committed to developing AGI at Keen Technologies. Several video games, including Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein 3D, and Commander Keen, were created by Carmack.
Oculus VR was acquired by Meta in 2014 after Carmack joined the company as CTO. He concentrated most of his time on the artificial intelligence-oriented firm Keen Technologies in 2019 and decreased his job to CTO consultancy.
