Ripple just won a new legal victory when Judge Sarah Netburn declined the SEC’s request to produce lobbying documents.

Ripple has just won a new legal victory in its battle against the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

Federal judge Sarah Netburn denies the SEC’s request to force Ripple to produce documents related to previous lobbying efforts.

Netburn previously denied access to communication between Ripple and the lawyers. The judge quoted this rejection in her most recent judgment:

“The SEC’s request for mandatory filing of documents related to Ripple’s lobbying efforts is DONE. As discussed in previous submissions and court orders denying access to Ripple’s privileged communications, Ripple’s fair notice focuses on the SEC’s activities, not its own conduct …

Likewise, Ripple’s lobbying efforts regarding the status of XRP are inadequate; and all related arguments are outside the burden of proof in the proceedings.

The SEC officially filed a complaint against the payment giant in December, alleging that Ripple’s original asset, XRP, was an unregistered security when it was launched and remains a security to this day.

Recently, regulators also tried to force Ripple to keep records of XRP transactions and efforts were made after the complaint was filed. However, Netburn denied that too.

“The SEC’s request for filing after the DELETE date of the complaint is not biased. If, after exchanging the expert opinion between the parties, it became clear that the Ripple expert relied on documents that fairly asked the SEC to review the documents after the complaint, the SEC may extend its request.
