3Commas Has Confirmed The API Leak

Key Points:

  • After new rumours on Twitter, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao claimed he’s “reasonably sure” there were “wide spread API key leaks” from trading-bot platform 3Commas.
  • A representative for 3Commas said the business had viewed the hacker’s message and verified the information in the uploaded files was accurate after.
3Commas representative claimed the corporation had viewed the hacker’s message and verified the information in the uploaded files was accurate on Wednesday.

Immediately, the crypto trading software provider announced to request Binance, Kucoin and other supported exchanges revoke all keys that were connected to 3Commas.

Following the thread, the firm stated that only a small number of technical employees had access to the infrastructure, but the firm has taken steps to remove their access. Although saying that “it was always a possible scenario and on their watch list”, the trading software provider announced there has no evidence of an inside job.

Since then, we have implemented new security measures and will not stop there; we are launching a full investigation involving law enforcement.

Previously, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao stated on Wednesday that he is reasonably sure there were wide spread API key leaks from trading-bot platform, following new social media speculation about an October event.

If you have ever put an API key in 3Commas (from any exchange), please disable it immediately.

As Coincu reported, an investigation undertaken in October by 3Commas and the collapsed FTX crypto exchange found that API keys were used to make illicit transactions for DMG trading pairs. On October 20, the 3Commas team was notified of an issue in which FTX API keys associated with the platform were exploited to conduct unauthorized trades.

Through an investigation, the team said that they discovered multiple fake websites claiming to be 3Commas were used to phish information by tricking users into connecting their exchange accounts to fraudulent web interfaces, noting that third-party browser extensions or malware may have been involved.
