NFT God Suddenly Attacked As 16,000 Fans Receive Hacked links

Key Points:

  • The reason for being hacked was that the Ledger was set as a hot wallet instead of a cold wallet on his new device.
  • NFT God said that the hackers sent 2 emails to 16,000 closest fans with hacked links, leading to a huge loss of trust.
On January 15, NFT God tweeted that due to hacking into Twitter, Substack, Gmail, Discord and wallets, he lost all encrypted assets and NFTs, and hackers also posted fraudulent links through stolen accounts.

He believes the reason for being hacked was that the Ledger was set as a hot wallet instead of a cold wallet on the new PC, and the mnemonic was imported and used in the wallet on the networked computer.

In particular, he went to download OBS onto his personal desktop computer which is industry-standard video streaming software to live stream some video games. During this, he clicked the sponsored link on google which he implied was the cause of the hacking.

Yesterday afternoon I went to download OBS onto my personal desktop computer. OBS is industry standard video streaming software. I was excited to live stream some video games for the first time in my life. What I didn’t realize was I clicked the sponsored link on google

After downloading and installing the OBS.exe, he went to the stream for a couple of hours without any awareness of unusual things before a Twitter account namely Klöss.eth noticed NFT God about the hack.

Following the thread of NFT God, he said that the hackers sent 2 emails to 16,000 closest fans with hacked links, leading to a huge loss of trust.

As for the reason behind the unwanted damage, NFT God expressed a sense of regret for not buying a new cold wallet immediately. However, he then emphasized even with a cold wallet, his entire digital world would still be destroyed.

Digital security isn’t just buying a cold wallet. It’s also being careful with EVERYTHING you do on the internet. Everything.

Yu Xian, the founder of the security agency SlowMist, said that the core reason is that the computer runs a game program with a Trojan horse, and then the mnemonic of the encrypted asset is connected to the Internet on this computer, so it may be stolen by hackers.
