Game Studio Voldex Completes A Round Of Investment Led By a16z

Key Points:

  • Voldex revealed that it would be hosting a fresh round of fundraising.
  • The company, which makes content for Roblox and Minecraft, intends to utilize the funds to sustain its current games while also working on new ones.
  • Former investors Dune Ventures, Makers Fund, and POW Interactive joined the new Series A round, which was headed by a16z.
The game studio Voldex completed the A round of investment, the amount has not been disclosed.

The new Series A financing was led by Andreesen Horowitz (a16z), with participation from prior investors Dune Ventures, Makers Fund, and POW Interactive. Lalotte Ventures also contributed additional money to the round. Andrew Chen, general partner of a16z, also became a member of the Voldex board of directors.

With some of the most well-liked user-generated material on Roblox, the studio presently holds top accolades. These include Cursed Islands, Base Battles, ZO Samurai, Driving Empire, and Base Battles. OneBlockMC, a Minecraft server, is also run by Voldex. Over 1 million daily active users are playing Voldex’s games, the company claims.

Voldex improves the quality of user-generated content platforms like Roblox and Minecraft by acquiring and improving existing games, with Roblox alone having more than 58.8 million users.

Alexandre Singer, Voldex’s CEO, said in a statement:

“The funding will allow us to continue to build out our team. In addition, the funding will support our existing games and allow us to acquire impressive UGC games from today’s best and brightest game creators, helping to unlock each one’s potential by developing awesome new features and updates that are organic to the IP.”

According to previous news, as of December last year, less than 50% of the funds were deployed in a16z’s $4.5 billion investment fund Crypto Fund 4, which was launched in May last year. Chris Dixon, founder and general partner of a16z, expressed interest in blockchain games, especially community building around Web3 games.
