According to the results of a recent survey by digital asset-focused financial services provider Fidelity Digital Assets, European and Asian investors are pushing to invest in cryptocurrencies.
Around 52% of the investors surveyed have secured exposure to cryptocurrencies this year, with European and Asian investors taking the lead. With 44% of investors surveyed claiming that market conditions in 2020 will increase the likelihood of investing in digital assets, the crypto market is likely to continue its rapid expansion over the next few years.
The survey, conducted between December 2020 and April 2021, is based on 1,100 online and telephone interviews with experts from the USA, Europe and Asia.
In Europe, investors surveyed, whose digital asset share increased from 45% in 2020 to 56% this year, rose 11 percentage points.
For the second year in a row, European investors named in the survey showed a greater propensity for using digital assets than their US counterparts.
However, investment in digital assets in the US “continues to grow rapidly, up 6 percentage points from the 2020 survey to 33%. Asia has the highest adoption rate, with 71% of surveyed investors currently investing in digital assets, ”said Fidelity Digital Assets.
About 18% of Americans surveyed said they bought or invested in digital assets through an investment product this year, compared to 8% in 2020.
“The increased adoption of these investment products can be supported by an increase in the number of public trust structured investment products currently available in the United States,” the report states.
European investors are increasingly preferring to buy digital assets directly: 41% of respondents invest this way, compared to 29% in 2020, while allocating them to other assets in the same period last year.
In Asia, 52% of surveyed investors said they bought digital assets directly, while 39% expressed their allocation through an investment product, according to Fidelity Digital Assets.
Investors in the “US appear to be lagging behind Europe and Asia in direct investments, with only 21% of the surveyed investors owning Bitcoin in their portfolios, compared with 46% and 45% in Europe and Asia”.
“We believe this continuing trend is partly due to the increased number of managed investment products that provide access to digital assets in European markets, provide a structured structure for retail investors and can help build trust with institutions. In addition, European investors have historically been more likely to have alternative investments in their portfolios than US investors, who for the past decade have mostly invested in stocks and bonds, which have seen many investment benefits. for loyalty.
Bitcoin (BTC) remains the top cryptocurrency of choice in all three regions as it is held by 21% of investors surveyed in the US, 46% in Europe and 45% in Asia.
Ethereum (ETH) is in second place with 10% in the US, 27% in Europe and 22% in Asia and Litecoin (LTC) in third, with 6% of investors surveyed in the US, 15% in Europe and 14% in Asia, the company announced.
It is noteworthy that US investors’ Bitcoin ownership increased slightly by 2 percentage points year-on-year.
“In Europe, Bitcoin and Ethereum are the most important drivers for increasing acceptance. Bitcoin acceptance rose 13 percentage points from 33% in the 2020 survey, while Ethereum acceptance more than doubled by 13%. “, according to the survey.
