Ripple Announces New President As SEC Lawsuit Nears A Conclusion

Key Points:

  • According to a new company blog post, Monica Long, the company’s senior vice president and general manager, will be promoted to president.
  • Long joined Ripple in 2013 when the company had only 10 workers, she was elevated to general manager in 2020 and says she’s excited to get started as the company’s new president.
As the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) case against the payments network nears its conclusion, Ripple Labs has appointed a new president.

Monica Long, the company’s senior vice president and general manager, will be promoted to president, according to a new company blog post.

From the moment I first met Monica nearly eight years ago at Ripple, it was clear that she was a force to be reckoned with. Her deep knowledge of crypto paired with her determination, creativity and ability to think out of the box has made her one of the most respected leaders in the industry and certainly at Ripple.

says Brad Garlinghouse, Ripple CEO

Additionally, he added Monica has guided Ripple to a highly unusual position of growth and financial health, even in the present harsh crypto landscape. She’s been a valuable consultant to me over the years, and I’m excited to work with her even more closely as she takes on the job of President.

Long, who joined Ripple in 2013 when the company had only 10 workers, was elevated to general manager in 2020 and says she’s excited to get started as the company’s new president.

Over half my professional career has been in crypto – and more importantly, at Ripple. I’m incredibly honored and ready to hit the ground running as president.

The SEC first sued Ripple Labs in December 2020, alleging that XRP was issued as an unregistered security and continues to be one.

Earlier this month, Garlinghouse stated that the prospects of Ripple settling with the SEC are virtually zero and that the issue might be resolved this year.

We expect a decision from the judge certainly in 2023. But you don’t really have any control over when a judge makes their decisions. I’m optimistic that sometime in the coming single-digit number of months we will have closure.
