Key Points:
The attorneys of FTX CEO Christian Everdell and Mark Cohen said they have begun researching and contacting potential experts and expect to take one or more potential candidates to court by the end of the week.
In a court hearing last week, Judge Lewis Kaplan recommended that the SBF hire a technical expert to advise on bail matters and that the SBF pay for that technical expert.
There has been controversy over the SBF’s bail conditions for the past few weeks. Prosecutors had previously accused him of connecting with a potential witness on Signal and using a VPN to conceal his internet usage records.
Prosecutors asked the judge to tighten SBF’s bail conditions, suggesting the court should severely restrict his internet access. Kaplan has temporarily banned SBF from using VPNs or any encryption apps until the terms of his guarantee are met.
As for SBF’s lawyer, saying that the prosecution’s charges are too harsh, his lawyer also asked him to use some documents, such as Google Docs, to prepare for the trial.
If convicted, Sam could face decades in prison. He is also temporarily barred from contacting current or former FTX employees.
The judge asked the attorneys to submit the proposed bail order to the court this week. SBF said through his attorney that he used a VPN to watch the Super Bowl and other NFL games.
