Korea Urgent In Combating Virtual Asset Cybercrime And DDoS Attacks

Key Points:

  • South Korea has listed dark web tracking, virtual asset analysis, and DDoS attacks as three central tasks in protecting network security.
  • The TF task force has been established with three divisions responsible for each mission.
  • Virtual assets are becoming increasingly popular, so the dark web is an anonymous means of payment to commit crimes.
According to Money Today, South Korean police have listed dark web tracking, virtual asset analysis, and DDoS attacks as “three central tasks of the cyber-terrorism investigation” that the police must urgently address.

To this end, the Korean National Police Agency announced today that it has decided to establish a task force to respond to cybercrime platforms and that three sub-departments will carry out three main tasks blame.

The National Investigation Headquarters of the National Police Agency announced on the 6th that it has decided to establish and operate the TF Cybercrime Platform Response Task Force (Special Task Force).

This force will work to research response technology and investigate cyber-terrorism tracking technology. The TF consists of ‘three parts’ with the theme:

  • Dark Web Tracking
  • Cryptocurrency Analysis
  • DDoS attack monitoring

It will be operated to research response technologies and investigative techniques to track down the heart of cyber-terrorist attacks.

Police explained that this technology, as an anonymous network and means of payment, is a significant threat to future security as it is abused in cyber-terrorism crimes and in cybercriminals in crimes in general.

The dark web is an online space that can only be accessed by installing a particular program as an anonymous network service. It has a feature that the server’s IP address and the visitor are not exposed. For this reason, the number of users continues to increase worldwide due to the distribution of malicious programs such as ransomware, drug trafficking, child sexual exploitation, and illegal filming.

Virtual assets have become a significant currency used on the dark web for anonymous payment. They are being abused to buy and sell various illegal vehicles or receive payments for criminal proceeds such as ransomware. A DDoS attack cripples Internet services by simultaneously sending large amounts of data to multiple systems.
