Do Kwon Jailed In New Area With Only 8 Square Meters Without Beds

A criminal defense lawyer in Montenegro said that Do Kwon would soon be transferred to a detention area with only 8 square meters, about 10 people, and no beds.

Terraform Labs founder and former fugitive Do Kwon is currently in a Montenegro jail awaiting an indictment for alleged document forgery. The circumstances surrounding his arrest and detention have generated significant media attention and public interest. According to a criminal defense lawyer in the country, detainees will be moved to a general facility along with others awaiting trial after the quarantine period.

The criminal defense lawyer in Montenegro noted that conditions in the jail have not improved since a 2020 human rights report by the US Department of State highlighted overcrowding and aggressive treatment by the staff. It is important to note that Kwon has not yet been found guilty of any crime and is entitled to a fair trial.

After a 10-day quarantine period, Do Kwon will be moved to a general facility where they are housed in small, crowded rooms with up to 11 people and no beds. Despite the challenging conditions, Do Kwon is permitted a 30-minute walk each day and can purchase basic goods from the commissary.

It is up to Montenegro courts to decide regarding Kwon’s potential extradition. While it is reported that South Korea may have the upper hand in the extradition process, a trial in Montenegrin court for Kwon’s criminal charges will likely come first.

Kwon’s current situation is far from ideal, as he is facing a potential indictment for alleged document forgery and is currently in jail in Montenegro.
