Avalanche Will Activate The Cortina Upgrade On The Mainnet On April 25

Key Points:

  • Avalanche’s Cortina is now available and will go live on April 25th at 11 a.m. ET.
  • Verifiers must update their nodes before this date otherwise, they will not be able to process new blocks post-upgrade.
  • The update will enable the testing of dApps on Fuji, the blockchain’s public network.
Usman Asim, an Ava Lab’s developer relations engineer, said that Avalanche’s Cortina is now available and will be live on April 25 at 11 a.m. ET.

Verifiers must update their nodes before this date, or they will be unable to process new blocks after the upgrade.

Before that, the Cortina Upgrade on the mainnet will be available shortly. The update will enable the testing of dApps on Fuji, Avalanche’s public network.

Protocol improvements in the Cortina update are incompatible with AvalancheGo v1.10.0 versions. Before activating a node on Fuji, verifiers’ software must be upgraded to AvalancheGo v1.10.0. If the verifiers are Mainnet node operators, they only need to act once the official AvalancheGo@v1.10.0 code is released.

The most recent version of AvalancheGo will move X-Chain to the Snowman++ consensus, implying that the whole network has been converted to a single consensus engine, reducing the size of the trusted computing base and increasing the leverage of current R&D efforts.

Avalanche Warp Messaging (AWM) integration on X-Chain has made it simpler for exchanges to offer X-Chain, which will include many of the coins used on the network.

Another Cortina Upgrade feature is Batched Delegator Awards, as well as an increase in the C-Chain gas cap. Cortina and Batched Delegator Rewards function together, with Batched Delegator Rewards first simplifying the reward distribution procedure for validators with a high number of delegators.

Cortina then changes the way the delegation fee is allocated for validators at that stake after the Cortina Activation. The Cortina update also includes batch permission incentives and a 1500 gas limit on the C-Chain.

The change will also allow speedier development, among other advantages, according to Avalanche.
