Google Now Supports To Display Ethereum Wallet Balance

Key Points:

  • Google Chrome added a feature that when Google searches for an Ethereum address, the search results will display the Ethereum balance.
  • The team also uses Google Cloud’s BigQuery public dataset to research token balances, which will later allow querying Ethereum wallet addresses.
  • This function does not currently support searching with ENS domain names.
Nalin, the product manager for Google Cloud Web3, revealed that Google Chrome has now completely released a feature, which means that when Google searches for an Ethereum address, the search results will show the Ethereum balance as well as a link to Etherscan.

The Google team is now doing research on token balances using Google Cloud’s BigQuery public dataset, which will subsequently enable searching Ethereum wallet addresses and visualizing wallet holdings (including ERC20, ERC 721, ERC1155, etc.). Also, this feature presently does not enable searching with ENS domain names.

When searching for Vitalik Buterin’s address “0xd8dA6BF26964aF9D7eEd9e03E53415D37aA96045,” the top content of the search provides the address’s balance and a link to Etherscan, as confirmed by Coincu (as shown in the figure). It should be noted that these two functionalities must be configured to the Google browser’s English page.

Previously, the Web2 platform supported displaying the Ethereum value of a specified wallet address, but shortly after that, it was removed.

The volume of ETH on exchanges has decreased by roughly 10% since the beginning of the year. Furthermore, following the FTX collapse in late 2022, there was a massive exodus of Ethereum from exchanges. With so many income prospects accessible in the Ethereum ecosystem, it makes little sense to leave it on an exchange. Moreover, a considerable portion of the ETH leaving exchanges has gone to self-custody and staking.

According to other reports, the Ethereum mainnet was unable to properly confirm transactions for around 25 minutes on Thursday, with blocks suggested but not finished.

After around 25 minutes, the mainnet was once again completing blocks. The developers said that they are currently researching what caused the outage and would provide an update to the community as soon as possible.
