The Biden government officially appointed Kazakh lawyer Saule Omarova – who has been described by critics as anti-banking and anti-cryptocurrency – as head of the financial regulator on September 29, who sympathized with the Marxist position.
While Omarova has lived in the USA since 1991 and previously worked as an advisor to George W. Bush, she attended Moscow State University in 1988 and 1989 on a The Lenin Personal Academic Scholarship.
In an open letter to Omarova published on October 5, Toomey announced that she had removed and added the reference to the dissertation “The Economic Analysis of Karl Marx and Theory of Revolution in the Capital” from her current résumé at Cornell Law School added that the article was featured on her résumé in April 2017.
The archived curriculum vitae shows that the article was written as part of Omarova’s diploma for philosophical honor. Toomey said he was seeking the document so that the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee could “adequately assess the health of individuals to serve in managerial and regulatory positions.” Independence was confirmed by the Senate.
He said the committee’s staff first requested the document from Omarova in September, but “we have received no assurances that the commission will receive a copy of the paper as soon as possible.”
The Biden government has received much criticism of Omarowa’s nomination, with critics referring to its 2020 statement encouraging lawmakers to “effectively end banking as we know it”. Omarova has also described cryptocurrencies as a symptom of the current “dysfunctional financial system”.
However, the Democrats praised Biden’s choice for the Senator Elizabeth Warren nomination describe Omarova is “an excellent choice for overseeing and regulating the operations of the largest banks in our country”.
In a speech to the committee on October 5, Toomey described Omarova as a “radical” extremist whose recent policies include state-directed wage and commodity pricing, nationalized retail banks and, in general, “opposed to anything like free market capitalism.” “He continued:
“In 2019 she tweeted, ‘Say what you would see of the former Soviet Union, there was no gender pay gap there. The market doesn’t always know the best […] Omarova clearly knows that her views are alien to the mainstream. “
Senator Ted Cruz also targeted Omarova because of the potential threat it could pose to cryptocurrencies. tweets: “Saule Omarova, Biden’s decision to run the OCC is not only a threat to our traditional economy, it also wants crypto to be forgotten. In the future, cryptocurrencies will be exposed to deterministic government regulations. This nomination must be stopped. “
