Nick Szabo is a well-known computer scientist and cryptographer who is famous for his invention of Bit Gold, a forerunner to Bitcoin. He is also recognized for his conceptualization of smart contracts, which he initially described as advanced contract law and e-commerce protocol practices between multiple parties over the internet. These smart contracts later became a fundamental technology for Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap.
Some analysts speculate that Szabo may be the true identity behind Bitcoin’s pseudonymous founder, Satoshi Nakamoto. Certain papers suggest that both Szabo and Satoshi sought feedback and advice from a similar group of individuals for their respective projects, which some analysts consider as circumstantial evidence of their connection.
There are other arguments that highlight the similarities between Szabo and Satoshi’s explanations for the value of Bitcoin and their writing styles, as reported by Gizmodo. Additionally, research conducted by Aston University analyzed their publications and found parallelism in their mannerisms and phrasings.
However, the community remains divided on whether Szabo is truly the creator of Bitcoin. Szabo himself has explicitly denied this claim, responding to a journalist’s email by stating, “Thanks for letting me know. I’m afraid you got it wrong doxing me as Satoshi, but I’m used to it.”
