Sotheby’s BitcoinShrooms Auction Sets Crypto Art Records with $450K Sales

Minted on October 22, the BitcoinShrooms collection, designed by the artist Shroomtoshi, introduced an 8-bit artistic style to the blockchain.

The auction, which took place in New York and ended on December 13, 2023, showcased the uniqueness of the Ordinals system.

This system assigns a specific number to each satoshi, ensuring a non-fungible attribute crucial for NFTs. The Ordinals system creates a distinctive identifier for each satoshi, setting it apart from others. Sotheby’s revealed the following notable sales from the Bitcoin Ordinals inscriptions:

  • Inscription #38 fetched $241,300
  • Inscription #715 was sold for $107,950
  • Inscription #679 found a buyer at $101,600.

The total sales from these Bitcoin Ordinals inscriptions exceeded $450,000. Notably, the BitcoinShroom website and X account assert that this collection is the “first-ever Ordinals collection.”

Shroomtoshi’s artistic prowess was on full display as enthusiasts and collectors engaged in spirited bidding, with some lots surpassing their expected prices. Interestingly, bidders had the option to utilize cryptocurrency for the purchase of BitcoinShrooms NFTs.

This event marks a significant moment in the intersection of digital art, blockchain technology, and cryptocurrency, reaffirming the growing prominence of NFTs and their unique attributes in the art world. The Bitcoin Ordinals inscriptions continue to captivate both crypto enthusiasts and art connoisseurs alike.
