Fantom Sonic builders testnet is aimed at providing developers with essential tools to deploy decentralized applications (dApps) on Sonic technology as part of preparation for the impending mainnet launch.
The Fantom Sonic builders testnet retains key functionalities from the previous public testnet dashboard, ensuring a seamless transition for users. This includes the ability to claim tokens and execute redemptions. Since October 24, users have been invited to experience Sonic through the open testnet by directly claiming tokens and performing swaps via its web dashboard.
Fantom Sonic builders testnet represents the evolution of the Fantom network, introducing a new technology stack that supersedes the previous Opera. This stack, featured in the Fantom Sonic Client, encompasses the Fantom Virtual Machine (FVM), Carmen database storage, and an optimized Lachesis consensus mechanism, forming the backbone of the network.
Importantly, Sonic is positioned as the next iteration of the Fantom network without necessitating a hard fork for the upgrade. Existing smart contracts, services, and tools on Fantom Opera are expected to seamlessly integrate with the mainnet Fantom Sonic, given the full compatibility of the FVM with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and its associated programming languages.
With enhancements such as a new virtual machine, improved database storage, and optimized consensus mechanisms, Sonic aims to achieve over 2,000 transactions per second (TPS) with an average finality of one second.
Notably, it achieves this while significantly reducing storage consumption compared to its predecessor, Opera. Sonic represents the latest stride in Fantom’s commitment to advancing its underlying platform without resorting to sharding or additional layers.
