OP Delta Upgrade Helps Reduce 90% Of The Fixed Operating Costs On OP Chain

Key Points:

  • OP Delta upgrade slashes management costs by 90% with Span Batches, boosting OP stack adoption.
  • Ethereum’s Dencun upgrade, due March 2024, reduces Layer 2 data needs, potentially driving Optimism demand.
  • The upgrade improves chain efficiency, requiring node upgrades but no impact on users, advancing accessibility for all.
OP Labs has announced the launch of the OP Delta upgrade on the OP chain, marking a significant milestone for the ecosystem.

OP Delta Upgrade: Revolutionizing Cost Efficiency with Span Batches

The OP Delta upgrade introduces the Span Batches feature, aimed at drastically reducing fixed management costs by over 90%. Span Batches will drive the adoption of the OP stack by lowering L1 costs and mitigating risks associated with launching new L2s.

Following Mode’s Sunrise mainnet and MODE airdrop campaign, this upgrade paves the way for forthcoming features like native yield, aligning with Mode’s vision to establish the Optimism Superchain’s modular DeFi hub. The partnership with Optimism continues to flourish as the ecosystem evolves into a new chapter.

Delta, as a network upgrade, enhances data usage efficiency for OP Mainnet and other chains built on the OP Stack framework. The centerpiece of this update is the activation of Span Batches, proposed in January and now live post-approval by Optimism governance.

Span Batches minimize metadata by encoding multiple blocks into single batches, reducing L1 data posting and resulting in substantial fee savings, potentially up to 99% in fixed operational costs.

Node operators must upgrade their nodes for the OP Delta upgrade, ensuring a seamless transition with no impact on end-users. This upgrade aims to enhance the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the OP chain, rendering it more accessible and appealing for both users and developers.

Ethereum’s Dencun Upgrade Set to Transform Optimism’s Demand Dynamics

Meanwhile, Ethereum’s Dencun upgrade, after successful testnet releases, gears up for its mainnet release in March 2024.

This upgrade holds pivotal importance for Optimism, as it significantly reduces data requirements for Ethereum-based Layer 2 chains, slashing transaction costs and bolstering Optimism’s attractiveness in the crypto ecosystem. Dencun stands as a catalyst for potential price gains for Optimism in the near future.
