Charges against 16 defendants
On June 5, 2021, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Public Security announced that it had completed its investigation and proposed that the Supreme People’s Procuratorate prosecute Ho Ngoc Tai, Tran Ngoc Hoang and 14 other defendants for robbery.
Among the 16 accused are Nguyen Quoc Dung and Nguyen Anh Tuan, former Ho Chi Minh City police officers.
According to the investigative agency, Tai, Hoang and Mr. Nguyen (the victim in the case, 33 years old, resident of Ho Chi Minh City) participated in Bitcoin investments in 2016 and therefore knew each other. Two years later, the crypto business lost money.
Believing that Mr. Nguyen is an investment-minded person leading to losses, Tai and Hoang asked Mr. Nguyen to return them 1,000 bitcoins at a loss, but the victim refused.

In April 2020, Tai spent VND 75 million to hire Mai Xuan Phot and Trinh Tuan Anh and other defendants to investigate Mr. Nguyen’s whereabouts and whereabouts. After Tai and Hoang found the enemy, they went from Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh City and then planned with the defendant to commit the crime.
May 2020, Tai’s group used a motorcycle to block Nguyen’s car to demand money, but failed. On May 17th, Phot discovered that Mr. Nguyen and his relatives had moved to Ho Chi Minh City from Lam Dong Province, so they reported an ambush to Tai’s group.
When Mr. Nguyen’s car moved towards the Dau Giay toll booth, the robbers sat on 3 cars to hunt. On the way, the first group collided with the victim’s car.
When the second group saw Mr. Nguyen stop the car and open the door, they used a car to block the head. The other group used red-ink bullets and needles to control the victim and some family members, then forced the victim to drive towards the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay highway.
Arriving in Thong Nhat District in Dong Nai Province, Hoang asked Nguyen to open his phone to transfer all kinds of virtual money. Tai also forced the opponent to call his relatives to transfer 1,000 bitcoins, but failed.

After Tai and the defendants stole a virtual sum of VND 35 billion, they took Nguyen and his family to and left Thu Duc City. Before escaping, the group stole dashcams and 3 phones from the victims.
Criminal Investigation alleged that the amount of money that Tai and the defendant converted from bitcoin to Synthetic Team dong was nearly 19 billion. After splitting up among his accomplices, Tai kept more than 5 billion. Around 80 bitcoins are stored in the e-wallet.
On May 21, 2020, Mr. Nguyen filed a complaint with the investigating authorities about a robbery on the highway. As of June 21, 2020, Tai and the defendant were alternately arrested.
Who is the “businessman” who is staged and robbed?
The victim of this robbery is no stranger to virtual currency investors – although virtual currencies are not recognized by the state bank and have been warned many times – it is Le Duc Nguyen (self-styled Lucas, SN 1988). , Hometown of Binh Dinh, living in District 2), a virtual currency tycoon emerged in 2016 as the founder of the Bitkingdom virtual currency exchange to attract tens of thousands of other people.
Mr. Le Duc Nguyen aka Lucas, former speaker, calls for investment in Bitkingdom’s virtual currency
In 2016, Le Duc Nguyen emerged as a leader in presentations calling for “moths” to invest in Bitkingdom’s virtual currency exchange, with the promise of helping gamers become “millionaires” soon.
Using the same tricks as the multi-stage transformation model, Le Duc Nguyen’s Bitkingdom was exposed by the media. However, the desire to get rich, the desire to get rich quick through Nguyen’s promises, has led many people to pour money into this virtual currency and then fall into empty hands.
“Just invest a capital of about 10 million VND, you have the opportunity to earn 100 billion after 3 years”, “Bitkingdom is a global community center … with the mission” to strengthen the community – end poverty “”, “If You invest 10 million equivalent to 1 Bitcoin, you get a profit of 1% / day, 30% / month, after 30 days you can withdraw both principal and interest “- these are the fine words of Le. Duc Nguyen and his co-workers associate made a lot of people blind.
By the time the Bitkingdom exchange collapsed in 2018, an estimated 32,000 people were trapped with an amount of up to VND 15,000 billion. And Le Duc Nguyen and his staff disappeared, showing their faces only after the aforementioned robbery of 35 billion VND.
The group of criminals who had lost a lot of money investing were bitter because they thought Mr. DN was one of the people who appropriated their money.
