Key Points:
The HKMA will harness these sandboxes to test and drive the tokenization of traditional financial assets and real-world assets in these primary areas: fixed income and investment funds, liquidity management, green and sustainable finance, trade, and supply chain financing.
These themes will be tested and innovated upon in the first phase of the Ensemble Sandbox- a controlled environment. It also intends to collaborate with the Hong Kong Center under the Bank for International Settlements Innovation Hub on various tokenization topics, further enhancing the global reach and effectiveness of the sandbox. The HKMA will also work with members of the CBDC Expert Group for its expertise in further driving the development of the sandbox.

HKMA Chief Executive Mr. Eddie Yue commented: “The launch of the Project Ensemble sandbox for testing tokenization use cases is an important step for the HKMA and the industry in exploring the application of tokenization technology in real business scenarios.”
Since Project Ensemble was announced last March, the industry response has been excellent, exploring new and innovative ways to reshape the digital financial world. In the future, the HKMA will be happy to work with the SFC, other central banks, academia, and relevant industry players to advance Hong Kong’s tokenization market further.
