Shots Fired Near Former President Donald Trump in Florida, Suspect Detained

The former president, who was on the golf course at the time, was unhurt, his campaign said in a statement on Sunday. The incident reportedly has been treated by the FBI and the U.S. Secret Service as an assassination attempt against Trump.

The detained suspect was named Ryan Wesley Routh, who had gained lots of pro-Ukraine messages on X. Previously known as Twitter. In 2022, Routh said he would die for Ukraine. One thread on his X said, “we need to burn the Kremlin to the ground.” His account has now been deactivated.

The incident comes weeks after a similar assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, two months ago during a rally there. This means increased fears over his security.

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the incident that happened in Minnesota. Both of them expressed their relief for the safety of Trump. The White House also issued a statement declaring that both leaders were worried about the security of all political personalities.

Crypto Market Reacts to Trump Incident

In yet another development, the meme coins related to Trump have plunged deep after the news came out. MAGA (TRUMP) fell more than 8.5%, while Doland Tremp (TREMP) plunged by more than 2.1%. In the last week, these tokens have fallen more than 35%.

The fall of Ethereum also had the broader cryptocurrency market react to this with Bitcoin losing almost $2,000 in value. The defeat of Trump in the recent debate raised concerns in the crypto community because he is considered a pro-crypto candidate who had promised to make the U.S. a global leader of the sector.
