McCook, known online as Friar Hass, believes the industry is well on its way to achieving its goal by 2030.
With immersion cooling, Bitcoin mining ASICs are immersed in a special cooling liquid that absorbs and recycles the heat from the data center. This bitcoin mining method increases productivity.
Earlier this month, bitcoin mining company Riot Blockchain announced that it would develop 200-megawatt heat-cooled bitcoin mining infrastructure at its Whinstone facility. Based on the company’s preliminary immersion cooling test results, the company expects a 25% increase in hash rate and a 50% increase in ASIC performance.
Around the Coin podcast co-host Brian Roemmele posted a photo of a submerged bitcoin mining rig on Twitter on Oct. 29, claiming that “Bitcoin miners drowning in liquids caused heat and noise to decrease 95%. are reduced and we take up to 40% of the heat and convert it into electricity. “
“Bitcoin will be 100% green by 2024,” he said Add, “No other system will be greener”.
While McCook agrees that Bitcoin can go carbon neutral, he’s not very optimistic about the timeframe.
“I believe it will be zero emissions by 2030, but I think 2024 is a bit ambitious,” he said. “And I think immersive cooling could be part of the transition to green.”
“So in terms of sustainability, you get shelf life and don’t have to produce as much,” he added.
Immersion cooling can reduce equipment replacement and the amount of energy required to cool the derrick when mining BTC. While this does reduce the environmental impact of mining, it does so in a way that is attractive to miners, McCook said.
“The switch to green Bitcoin mining will not be for environmental reasons. The point is to reduce miners’ cost base in order to improve their profitability. “
He added that the main game is really about whether miners are using sustainable energy sources.
“The hard truth is that when you plug your device into the wall, you get what’s on the other side of that connector,” says McCook.
“So that Bitcoin is really emission-free, the basic grid must be emission-free.”

Bitcoin is getting closer to a sustainable future. According to the latest findings from the Bitcoin Mining Council, the North American members surveyed currently use electricity with a sustainable energy mix of 65.9%.
“Based on this data, it is estimated that the sustainable power mix of the global mining industry grew by around 57.7% in the third quarter of 2021, an increase of 3% compared to the second quarter of 2021,” writes BMC Most Sustainable Industries Worldwide.
Michael Saylor, CEO of Microstrategy, said, “This quarter we have seen significant improvements in the energy efficiency and sustainability of Bitcoin mining operations due to advances in technology, semiconductor technology, the rapid expansion of mining operations in North America, China Exodus and worldwide noted rotation towards sustainable energy and modern mining techniques “,
