Key Points:

  • Bitcoin core dev Peter Todd is controversially identified as Satoshi Nakamoto in an HBO documentary, which he vehemently denies.
  • Todd stated he had taken security precautions due to public attention but refrained from detailing them to keep potential threats uncertain.
According to Decrypt, Bitcoin core dev Peter Todd recently found himself under fresh scrutiny after he was unmasked as the secretive Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto in a new HBO documentary.

Bitcoin Core Dev Peter Todd Denies Being the Bitcoin Creator

While Todd has categorically denied these claims, he admitted the attention has forced him to take extra security precautions.

“I have taken some security measures,” Todd stated. “ But it’s not a good idea to say exactly what I’ve done publicly. Best to keep the bad guys guessing.” Despite what the documentary may have suggested, he insisted he was not secretive about his identity.

Todd attended the Bitcoin Conference in Lugano, Switzerland, where a statue of Nakamoto was unveiled. Five more speaking events are lined up in the next few weeks.

Active Engagement in the Bitcoin Community Despite Controversy

The HBO documentary, directed by Andrew Hoback and released earlier this month, sparked considerable outrage from Todd and the greater cryptocurrency community. The film suggests that Todd is the probable inventor of Bitcoin—an insinuation to which he strongly objects.

In fact, Bitcoin core dev Peter Todd is quoted in the film as saying, “Well yeah, I’m Satoshi Nakamoto,” a quote he later explained was out of context and not indicative of his actual identity.

Todd has been involved with Bitcoin since its early days. He’s no stranger to the public scrutiny that comes with such a high-profile position.

While this latest wave of attention represents the most scrutiny he’s thus far faced over his possible connection to Nakamoto, he has previously been considered one among many candidates discussed in the conversation of who the true creator of Bitcoin is.
