The Court of Appeal found that Wright, an Australian computer scientist and businessman, had submitted fake evidence, including fabricated documents, in trying to prove his claim.
In a judgment given Thursday and made available Friday, Lord Justice Arnold termed Craig Wright appeal “totally without merit.” His ruling upheld the decision made last year by Judge James Mellor, who had come to the conclusion that Wright is not Nakamoto, the pseudonym given to the author of Bitcoin White Paper and creator of the Bitcoin network, created online in 2008.
The court also mentioned the fact that Wright has consistently put forward lies, including “AI-generated hallucinations,” and lodged an incredible amount of doctored documents as proof. The lengthy judgment was delivered upon eight days of cross-examination and consideration of statements by 15 witnesses which all combined to negate that of Wright.
The case had originated due to a lawsuit filed by COPA in 2021 against Wright. This was done in hopes of barring him from bringing further lawsuits against developers involved in cryptocurrency.
Wright has claimed to be Nakamoto since 2016 and regularly faces accusations of fraud. Several critics, including high-profile individuals such as Hodlonaut and Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, have openly called him a “scammer.” Most of the libel lawsuits Wright has filed against his critics have been dismissed or decided unfavourably.
