Stand with Crypto Advocates Mobilize to Block SEC Nomination

Over the past week, about 107,000 emails from 52,000 advocates urged senators to vote against Crenshaw’s renomination.

Stand with Crypto‘s executive director, Logan Dobson, called the move to scrap the vote “a great first step toward reversing the SEC’s hostile attitude towards crypto” and allowing the sector to grow.

Kara Calvert, Coinbase’s vice president of U.S. policy, spotlighted the effort as evidence that crypto advocates have become more active in policy-making, not just elections.

Senate Scrubs Vote on Crenshaw’s Renomination Amid Opposition

Crenshaw, known for aligning herself with SEC Chairman Gary Gensler on a number of issues and opposing key crypto initiatives like spot Bitcoin ETFs, was originally appointed in 2020 under the Trump administration and renominated by President Biden. Her tenure has faced criticism from the crypto industry as perceived as hostile to digital asset innovation.

The Senate Banking Committee, led by Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, has now scrubbed two attempts to vote on Crenshaw’s renomination. A vote scheduled for last week blew up when Republican senators objected to the meeting.

The committee also called off a vote planned for Wednesday due to a lack of time and ongoing opposition from Republicans. Congress is scheduled to adjourn on December 20, making the delays the effective end of any renomination effort for Crenshaw.
