Former New York City Police Chief Eric Adams has won the election as the city’s new mayor.
More interested in his campaign, however, is his promise to bring back the glory that the city has lost due to the pandemic and, above all, to turn NYC into a bitcoin hub.
The Democrat, who will take office as the second black mayor of the country’s most populous city on January 1, has vowed to implement policies that meet the needs of middle-class citizens and Big Apple workers.
“Tonight, New York picked one of you – one of us. I am you. I am you “, Adams told his supporters at his victory ceremony in Brooklyn on Tuesday after initial results showed that he defeated Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, the AP reported.
“After years of prayer and hope, struggle and work, we are approaching the town hall.” he added
During an Adams speech last June, the then-candidate also told voters that one of his priorities was to ensure that New York City attracts new technology and top-tier companies, including crypto-centric companies.
“I promise you, in a year you will see another city. We bring companies here. We will be the center of life sciences, the center of cybersecurity, the center of self-driving cars and drones, the center of Bitcoin, the center of all technology. ” he said.
Also with regard to Miami’s famous pro-crypto mayor Francis Suarez, Adams said at the time:: “Miami, you have succeeded. We’re bringing our business back. “
And now, Electoral Mayor Eric Adams told Bloomberg Radio that he wants to make New York a crypto-friendly city and wager a “friendly competition” with the Mayor of Miami, who was the first to establish the so-called CityCoin token.
“He’s got a MiamiCoin that’s doing really well – we’ll see where we have to go.” Adams is quoted.
He also vowed to himself that he would “Think about what will stop the growth of bitcoin and crypto in our city.”
Adams isn’t the first US politician to pledge a pro-crypto stance, in fact, Miami is currently at the forefront of crypto innovation in the United States, led by Mayor Francis Suarez. The city is also the first to launch its own crypto token in the form of Miami Coins, which has generated millions in revenue and is used for the city’s growth. Mayor Francis was also the first US politician to accept 100% of his salary in Bitcoin.
Now Suarez is also aiming for a second term as a Republican candidate, having also won the mayoral election in his city. After his victory, Suarez announced that he would receive 100% of his next salary in Bitcoin.
Aside from Miami, Wyoming is also a growing crypto hub, however the iconic status of NYC and the capital of Silicon Valley will certainly help crypto gain more adoption . Together with Miami, NYC could become the entire crypto capital of the United States.
