Bluzelle introduces decentralized storage in the mainnet for NFT content

Bluzelle, a decentralized storage network, announced the release of the R2 mainnet file storage system designed to improve the decentralization of unusable tokens (NFTs) and related data.

The solution came amid growing concerns about the immutability of the Interplanetary File System (IPFS) protocol, a relatively intact storage model that is currently the standard for most NFT assets, including Cryptopunks and Beeple.

Twitter user Jonty Wareing shared a popular assessment of the fundamental shortcomings of IPFS for NFT projects.

In his announcement, Bluzelle highlighted that NFT content revolving around 3D digital art or video reels includes prominent use cases for their service.

Bluzelle CEO Pavel Bains spoke to Cointelegraph about the importance of NFT assets and the transition of data from IPFS storage to a truly decentralized system as the field goes mainstream.

“IPFS is a decentralized network. But it does not guarantee decentralized storage. Your NFT is in just one node. This button can go down. If users do not want to take this risk, they should use systems like blood cell that ensure their assets are safe in multiple locations at the same time. “

Bluzelle’s infrastructure has already been deployed on Mintable and is expected to roll out in a number of other NFT marketplaces in the coming months, subject to successful testing.

Implementing this decentralized model will reassure buyers and owners that their NFT assets are safe, secure, and resistant to compromise in the event of a platform shutdown, a similar model to hardware wallet storage for crypto assets.

Bains also shared his expectations for the mainnet launch and provided his views on the potential impact the rollout could have on Bluzelle’s ecosystem over the next year:

“This is our first real use case. Like ICOs for Ethereum. We can focus on one area and really serve these customers. I think NFT will expand and evolve in new ways, and so will allow Bluzelle to develop new features to support it. “
