AZ Alkmaar Football Club pays players in Bitcoin

The Dutch team has revealed a plan to pay players in BTC. This promotion will make AZ Alkmaar the first football club to pay players in Bitcoin.

According to the statement posted on their website, the club is working with Bitcoin Meester to implement the plans.

Bitcoin Meester is a broker that makes it easy to buy and sell various cryptocurrencies in the market. The exchange is based in the Netherlands and aims to be a fast and cheap platform for cryptocurrency transactions.

Bitcoin Meester has been in operation since 2017 and, according to AZ Alkmaar, the two companies will work together until 2024.

The statement also revealed that the football club will pay using BTC as soon as possible. The company will also join a sports franchise that uses BTC to pay professional athletes.

Why does AZ Alkmaar football club pay players in Bitcoin?

According to the club’s commercial director Michael Koster, many are impatient and pro-Bitcoin.

As a result, the club decided to accept it for its payments. He also emphasized that the cryptocurrency market is constantly growing and more users are added. The attractiveness of this industry also attracts football clubs to join the trend.

However, Koster mentioned that soccer players are not very familiar with the crypto industry. Because of this, they had to work with a longtime player, Bitcoin Meester, to walk them through the process.

There are many brokers on the market, but Bitcoin Meester is one of the few that operate under the license of the Dutch Central Bank. That means they are legally working in the country.

In the past, the Dutch authorities have used the cryptographic regulations. A government official once proposed an outright ban on Bitcoin in the country.

Lately there have been a lot of sponsorship deals between crypto companies and sports teams. The whole idea is to gain brand awareness, patronage and business growth. Previously, before partnering with AZ Alkmaar, Crypto.com had also partnered with Formula 1.

In addition to these partnerships, many American star athletes and sports brands also support cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin in particular. Last month Tom Brady signed with FTX to become their ambassador for FTX’s part.
