Sophisticated Google Ads scams have been on the rise since Squid Game was carpeted. Check Point Research (CPR) was made record several crypto scams in the past few days and wallet users have lost thousands of dollars. The report comes days after the recent token scam on the play-to-earn platform Squid Game.
The new phishing method is noteworthy as it doesn’t rely on email links to wallet owners or fake tokens. Instead, it is aimed at users trying to download and install the most commonly used wallets.
In addition, the report also calls for caution from users trying to exchange their currencies on crypto-swapping platforms such as PancakeSwap or Uniswap.
According to one example quoted, sophisticated fraudsters imitate the original domain name of the wallet website “phantom.app” in variations such as phanton.app or phantonn.app or even openers such as “.pw”. One Reddit user said:
“I took a screenshot of my web history showing a visit to phantonn.app. It’s now decommissioned, but it’s the most searched page when you Googled “Install Phantom Wallet Chrome” or something similar. I don’t think you should click that link. ”

The same goes for the MetaMask wallet address due to its popularity with users. Accordingly, the fake MetaMask page looks very similar to the original platform and successfully steals users’ private keys and passwords.
If investors search for keywords on Google instead of going straight to the official link, there is a very high chance they will fall victim to the bad guys. As a result, CPR warned users to check the URLs.

CZ Notes:
“Not without warning signs for the project … Despite the warning signs, speculators continued to buy tokens and drive the price up exponentially before the founders used up their liquidity within minutes.
Coin Squid Game has grown more than 75,000% in a short period of time, to the point where analyst Mr. Whale is also concerned about its attractiveness despite the risks.

CZ said on the company blog that Binance is “working to identify and blacklist addresses associated with its developers”. In addition, they employ multiple functions to identify “bad actors” and work with law enforcement agencies to take action.
DeFi scams are rampant with a record number of scams in 2021. CZ also said they cannot be banned or removed as they are “fully community-led” projects on BSC.
