US politicians have started to increasingly accept digital currencies as 4 mayors announced last week that they would accept their salaries in Bitcoin. With this, many predictions about 1 of these 4 cities could become crypto capitals in the future.
This speculation begins with Miami Mayor Francis Suarez announcing that he will accept 100% of his next salary in Bitcoin. In the meantime, Eric Adams, the elected Mayor of New York City, has followed suit by raising further and announcing that he will receive his first 3 salaries in Bitcoin.
They were followed by Scott Conger, the Mayor of Jackson (TN). In a tweet on Thursday, Conger said he will convert his next paycheck to BTC immediately, despite city law prohibiting him from accepting Bitcoin directly.
With the crypto landscape evolving, it is clear that politicians in these regions are taking steps to shift the crypto industry into this area.
The demand for crypto talent is increasing as jobs in this industry grow rapidly. Citing linked data, Bloomberg reports that New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles will have the largest proportions of crypto-related settings this year 2021. It is followed by metropolises such as Miami and Chicago.
Interestingly, the industry isn’t centered around a single hub like finance in New York, technology in San Francisco, and film in Hollywood. Anchorage Digital co-founder Diogo Monica told Bloomberg:
“Cryptocurrency companies are an extreme version of technology where their work is decentralized. That means cities and states with lower taxes, great infrastructure, and quick access to international airports can benefit from full remote work. “
Miami Mayor Francis Suarez often talks about making the city the crypto capital of the world. He believes that different regions of the United States will naturally have a competitive advantage. “The medium and long-term prospects are enormous. It’s as transformative as the industrial revolution, ”said Suarez.
Cryptocurrency mining companies have moved to areas with an excess of green energy. On the other hand, crypto exchanges are building their bases in urban areas. It will be interesting to see which city will emerge as the crypto capital in the future.
