The US Congress plans to hear a hearing of the committee on demystifying cryptocurrencies on March 17th

The joint economic committee, which includes Republicans and Democrats from the US House of Representatives and the US Senate, will hold a hearing on the government’s role in relation to cryptocurrencies.

According to the JEC’s schedule or the JEC’s schedule for next week, MPs will hear industry experts speak at a hearing on November 17th entitled “Demystifying Cryptocurrencies: Digital Assets.” Digital Assets and the Role of Government, Representative Don Beyer – whose bill previously broadened the legal and regulatory framework for digital assets in the United States – will chair.

Industry experts scheduled as speakers include the Open Market Institute’s Finance Policy Director, Alexis Goldstein, Former Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Tim Massad, the University of Pennsylvania’s Technical Asset Project Manager Digital and Blockchain, Kevin Werbach, and the Coin Center Research Director Peter Van Valkenburgh. . Legislators like Senator Rob Portman and Senator Ted Cruz, both of whom have spoken out in favor of crypto regulation, are members of the JEC.

Much of the discussion about cryptocurrency regulation in the United States has taken place outside of full House or Senate sessions, and has instead been often limited to sessions of the Services, Finance Committee or the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Development. However, the issue came to the fore in August when the debate over the wording of the existing infrastructure bill included tax reporting requirements for cryptocurrency developers, transaction validators and node operators.

The bill has since been passed by both the House of Representatives and the Senate with no further explanation on crypto brokers and is awaiting approval from President Joe Biden. The US president is expected to sign the law on November 15th.
