Man from Malta cheated himself with 700,000 US dollars from the crypto wallet directly on the drinking table

A 25-year-old executive from an unnamed company is currently charged with defrauding his drinking buddy for $ 700,000 in cryptocurrency. The victim alleged that the defendant stole his money while they were “drinking”.

A man from Malta accused of stealing $ 700,000 worth of cryptocurrencies

Several police officers testified before a hearing on the case led by Judge Donatella Frendo Dimech. The story is told as follows: The defendant is a company director named Luke John Milton, 25 years old. The victim was a 27-year-old man named Dillon Attard. A few days before the incident, Milton came across a blockchain project and sought advice on investing € 5,000 (about $ 5,932).

Milton met Attard for lunch at a Sliema restaurant after asking Attard to help with the investment. When the two met, Attard warned that the market was extremely volatile that day, but in the end Milton was determined to close the trade. Attard kept drinking together, alcohol in and out, for some reason Attard gave the defendant the phone so he could transfer money from his wallet to someone else.

When Attard realized something was wrong, he immediately grabbed his phone and found that the crypto wallet containing approximately 424,670.97 unizen tokens worth $ 700,000 had disappeared.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes when I got my cell phone back and didn’t see any credit in my wallet,” lamented the victim.

When police officers arrived on the scene, Milton tried to blame Attard, claiming he was the victim of a fraud. When the Financial Crimes Investigation Bureau (FCID) authorities arrived and requested that both men hand over their phones, Milton became upset and refused to hand over his phone.

It is not yet clear who is to blame, but if charged, Milton will face charges including: money laundering, money appropriation, cryptocurrency theft, gross disregard for law enforcement, and other crimes.

The case is scheduled to resume on August 11th. However, the defendant refused to give the phone password. Meanwhile, the police are considering hiring experts from abroad to unlock the device.
