The US SEC Hester Peirce did not respond to a question from a Twitter follower whether Ethereum, the second largest cryptocurrency, is a security.
“Crypto Mom” said she was open to building a “reasonable and clear” regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies, but would not focus on specific digital assets.

At the same time, the agency also deliberately left out a 2018 speech by former official William Hinman saying that ether was not a security.
In the midst of the almost one-year legal dispute between the Securities and Exchange Commission and Ripple, calls for regulatory clarity remain.
Despite being a staunch crypto advocate for many years, Peirce declined to speak on the Ripple case because Securities and Exchange Commission commissioners are prohibited from discussing ongoing lawsuits or enforcement actions.
