The football star Odell Beckham Jr., commonly known as OBJ, revealed on Twitter Monday that he will be receiving his new paycheck in bitcoin using Square’s Cash App. He also announced that he is distributing $1 million in bitcoin.
OBJ is a wide receiver with the Los Angeles Rams of the American National Football League (NFL). He signed a one-year contract with the Rams two weeks ago after being released by the Cleveland Browns. According to sources, his contract includes a basic salary of $750,000, a $500,000 signing bonus, and another $3 million in team-based incentives.
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers also stated last month that he is accepting a percentage of his compensation in bitcoin. In addition, in partnership with Cash App, he handed out $1 million in Bitcoin to his admirers.
In December of last year, Cash App collaborated with American rapper and hip hop musician Megan Thee Stallion to give away $1 million in bitcoin on Twitter.
Russell Okung, Tom Brady, Saquon Barkley, and Sean Culkin are among the top sportsmen who have asked to be paid in bitcoin.
The Perth Heat, a significant baseball team in the Australian Baseball League, revealed last week that it will use a bitcoin standard. “Perth Heat will pay players in bitcoin, pay staff in bitcoin, accept bitcoin payments for sponsorships, goods, and stadium concessions, [and] hodl bitcoin on the club’s balance sheet,” the organization stated.
